Carol Messer Vanover age 61, of Maryville, TN, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2023 surrounded by her family. She was born to CB Messer and Virginia Brooks Messer on July 16, 1962 in Lynchburg, Virginia. She was a graduate of Brookville High School in Lynchburg, Virginia. For 34 years, she had a career as a hair stylist where she enjoyed working with clients to help them feel beautiful; she developed many life long friendships in her role as a hairstylist along the way. Carol’s greatest joy was her family and she treasured every moment spent with them. In Carol’s spare time, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, shopping with her daughter, granddaughter, and best friend, Barbara Brock. Carol was kind, compassionate, and enjoyed showing her love for others by her many acts of service. She is survived by her husband of 22 years, Kent Vanover of Maryville, TN; daughter, Hannah (Thomas) Fenoglio of Chattanooga, TN and son, Tim Callahan of Nashville, TN, her step children Marcus Vanover and Amanda Hardy, along with her grandchildren Hunter and Haley Norris and Lilly Sweeney. Her brothers, Michael (Mary) Messer and Bill (Dreama) Messer of Lynchburg, VA. Her father in law, Tommy Vanover and mother in law, Pat Vanover of Erwin, TN. The family would like to give a special thank you to the Lantern at Morning Pointe of Clinton, TN for providing exceptional care and love to Carol. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence as we offer tribute and remember the life of Carol Messer Vanover in a funeral service to be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, December 30, 2023 in the chapel at Valley Funeral Home. Reverend Charles David Byrd will officiate. A visitation period to share memories and offer support to the family will begin at 11:00 am and will continue until service time on Saturday. I’m so sorry to hear that Carol has passed. I worked with her at JCPenney and we always had the best time. Over the last year and a half, she’d come visit me at my new job. I’ve missed her for the last few months. My prayers for Ken and the rest of the family.
