Bernard Masters

Bernard Masters, age 83, of Erwin, passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at his home. A native of Erwin, Bernard is a son of the late Alex and Rebecca Louise (Collins) Masters. He was a member of Chestoa Baptist Church. Bernard coached youth sports for years. He loved his church and spending time with family. He enjoyed talking about his days of coaching. In addition to his parents, Bernard is preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Marie Louise (Deaton) Masters; and siblings: Harley Masters, Lena Masters, Virginia Hixson, Lorena Wilson, Loyd Masters, Ed Masters, Jeanette Engle and Herbert Masters.Bernard Masters has left behind to cherish his memory: daughter, Cindy Willis and husband Greg; son, Randall Masters and wife Emily; grandchildren: Jonathan Grindstaff and wife Jessica, Caleb Grindstaff and wife Angel, Nora Masters and Holden Masters; great-grandchildren: Elias Grindstaff, Emily Holder and Lucas Holder; and several nieces and nephews.The family would like to offer special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of Ballad hospice for their kindness and care during this difficult time. Also, to Chestoa Baptist Church, Pastor Jacob Shelton and special neighbors, Lee, Ann and Jimmy Whitson for all of your love, prayers and support through the years.The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence as we offer tribute and remember the life of Bernard Masters in a funeral service to be held at 7:00 PM, Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at Chestoa Baptist Church. Reverend Jacob Shelton and Reverend Roger Hileman will officiate. A visitation period to share memories and offer support to the family will begin at 6:00 PM and continue until service time on Tuesday. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at 10:00 AM in Evergreen Cemetery. Those who wish to attend the graveside service should meet at Evergreen Cemetery by 9:50 AM on Wednesday for the service.
